Bunbury, a small seaside town two hours south of Perth, gifted us with a close encounter with a special lady of the sea. This poem is based on that encounter.
They call her Cracker,
Of all names!
A middle aged lady,
She visits the seashore every day.
She knows her people, knows her bay;
She won’t be prey.
Gently swims ashore.
Breaks convention.
Breaks the water, already brought her daughter,
Pushes her nose afloat.
They call her Cracker
For her splitting fin;
She’s friend of Bunbury,
Their most gracious swim.
Can you guess who Cracker is?
