Rottnest Island is a beautiful island in front of Perth, only a thirty minutes ferry ride from the lovely town of Freemantle, Western Australia. Quokkas populate this paradise together with a huge amount of unique flora and fauna that you can encounter by walking or cycling around the island and enjoying its pristine beaches.
This poem is inspired by a day-trip cycling around Rotto (as the locals call it) and by the joy quokkas spark on everyone who meets them.
A placid breeze from the Ocean,
Warm hug of the West,
Relives the burning heat of the day.
Fulfilled by the quest
For Rotto’s eccentric custodian.
A little diva with gentle claws
on a gem hugged by opal blue waters.
